NPD DisplaySearch預估2013年5吋全高清(FHD，解析度1920×1080)智慧手機面板的發貨量將超過1億片，占全部智慧手機面板的5%。而隨著5吋智慧手機面板的需求量持續增加，面板製造商開始採用新技術來降低功耗，同時提高解析度，部分廠商已開始利用Oxide TFT取代AMOLED或a-Si技術，以便取得競爭力優勢。

NPD DisplaySearch FPD材料與成本研究總監Yoonsung Chung表示，iPhone供應商主要關注於LTPS LCDs生產，但其他具有相關經驗的廠商已開始利用Oxide TFT技術並已取得具有競爭力的優勢，a-Si、Oxide、LTPS以及AMOLED每種技術都有各自的優缺點，這完全取決於面板製造商選擇最適合自己的技術。

Yoonsung Chung表示，雖然a-Si TFT技術的性能比Oxide或LTPS TFT為低，但目前絕大多數智慧手機液晶螢幕都採用該技術，原因是它相對成熟且成本較低，然而，隨著顯示幕的性能持續增強，市場對高性能背板的需求越來越多，特別是高解析度的智慧手機顯示器。Oxide TFT技術可望做到既降低成本又提高性能，Oxide螢幕的成本可與a-Si相媲美，而其性能接近於LTPS。
