感念葛蘭姆，林懷民捐款鼓勵新秀

雲門舞集藝術總監林懷民感念現代舞大師瑪莎‧葛蘭姆的提攜，捐出美國舞蹈節終身成就獎5萬美元（約新台幣150萬元）獎金，成立一個獎勵台灣年輕藝術家跨界合作的計畫。

林懷民指出，1974年葛蘭姆訪台，要求訪問雲門排練場。她看完三段雲門舞蹈，轉身對媒體表示：「你們有一位才華獨特的編舞家，一個強有力的現代舞團，請珍惜。」

之後林懷民到機場為葛蘭姆送行，她掏出一大把台幣要林收下。「我一生有許多人幫忙，」葛蘭姆說：「只要你不放棄，一定也會有人幫你忙！」那是雲門第一筆捐款。

感念這段因緣，林懷民決定捐出獎金，在雲門創立一項計畫，每年邀請各門藝術的年輕創作者一起激盪合作。
